A few weeks back I posted a video which benefited from the art of simplicity. But sometimes complexity is alright. Even if that complexity comes in the form of signs & symbols without a clear referent. Without further adieu, I bring you the new Yeasayer video for “Ambling Alp”:
Well, okay, it may not have a referent in the classic sense of meaning something. But it certainly makes penty of visual references. It’s a virtual fever dream of them — and maybe that’s the point of any good pop music video?
More specifically, this is some El Topo-quality alternate reality shit filled with not-quite-as-good-as-The Abyss quality special effects. And some of the nudie shots recall Ryan McGinley‘s photographs.
I don’t know what it all adds up to but I like it. Reference images after the jump.
